How to Detox Your Hair With The Best Hair Detox Shampoo in Australia
Have you ever wondered how to use a detox shampoo? If you've been too busy to concentrate on your health and wellness lately, now is the perfect time to reset and detox your hair. Whether you need to clear out accumulated products, wash away built-up hair dye, cleanse your hair of chlorine, or refresh your frizzy tresses, now is the time to detox. By using a detox shampoo, you can rejuvenate tired, dull, and lifeless hair. It's all in how you apply it to your hair and how many times you wash it.
Does hair detox shampoo actually work?
Yes. Detox shampoos are primarily formulated to remove impurities, toxins, and product buildup from your hair and scalp. They work via the process of gently breaking down residue or chlorine without damaging your hair's cuticle. These ingenious shampoos enable these unwanted impurities to gently dissolve from the hair shaft and under the cuticle, effectively dislodging impurities, toxins, and product buildup that have accumulated over time.
Will detox shampoo remove hair dye?
While using a detox shampoo may help fade hair dye to some extent, detox shampoo's effectiveness in completely removing hair dye can vary. It depends on various factors, including:
The type of dye used
The intensity of the colour, and
Your individual hair type and condition
Detox shampoos will remove a small portion of old, semi-permanent hair colour. If you have tinted hair and your hair is dry and porous, you will find a detox shampoo will slightly lighten the mid-lengths down to the ends of your hair.
So while a detox shampoo may remove some of your hair dye, it's not the best way. Hairstylist and V&M Spa founder Victoria Maude recommends working with a hairstylist who specialises in hair colour removal.
"This service falls under colour correction, and shifting old colour will reveal layers of old colour you may have thought had grown out. It's a bit more complex than it seems, so trust the professionals," says Victoria.
The degree that your colour changes with a detox shampoo depends on how dry your hair is. Damaged hair is always dry, so damaged and coloured hair will be more affected. Step-by-step info on how to get chlorine buildup out of your hair
If you're a swimmer, removing chlorine buildup from your hair with a detox shampoo is a powerful way to get your hair feeling soft and looking healthy again. But it's not about simply shampooing your hair as usual. V&M founder Victoria Maude created a method that works every time. In the two and a half decades Victoria was a hairstylist, countless clients asked her how to remove chlorine from their hair. After years of research, she engineered a step-by-step method that works every time. Here it is:
How to use clarifying shampoo Australia to detox chlorine from your hair
Chlorine buildup not only makes your hair look dirty, but it's also not good for your hair. The sooner you can detox the chlorine from your hair, the better.
* Rinse your hair with fresh water immediately after swimming in chlorine using a poolside shower.
* When you have access to a shower to wash your hair fully, before turning the shower on, squeeze one handful of balancing or clarifying shampoo into the palm of your hand.
* Gently squish the product into both hands before applying the shampoo to the ends and mid-lengths of your hair, working your way up your hair shaft, but NOT applying shampoo to your roots.
* Gently squeeze the strands of hair between your fingers, being mindful not to rub your hair as this will cause the cuticle to be roughed up, which will damage the cuticle.
* Leave the shampoo on your hair for five minutes before jumping into the shower and rinsing off the balancing or clarifying shampoo.
* Shampoo your hair again with a balancing or clarifying shampoo; apply one to three pumps depending on your hair length. This time, the shampoo can be applied to the root area.
* Always follow with a treatment conditioner. Your hair will need extra hydration and nourishment when swimming in chlorine.
Top Tip: If your hair is feeling dry, wash your hair a third time with a hydrating shampoo and always follow with a nourishing treatment conditioner. Repeat this process every time you wash your hair until all the chlorine buildup is gone.
Can your hair go through a detox?
Yes, but it's not the same as a wellness detox for your body. The term "hair detox" is used in the beauty industry to refer to the process of deep cleansing and removing product buildup from your hair and scalp. So, while hair itself doesn't experience detoxification in the same way as our bodies, the concept of a hair detox serves as a means to refresh and rejuvenate your tresses.
Why detox hair
Over time, hair can accumulate residue from styling products, chlorine, environmental pollutants, and natural oils - weighing it down and affecting its appearance and overall health. By washing your hair with clarifying or detoxifying shampoos, you can effectively remove these impurities and restore your hair's natural shine and beauty.
When to detox hair
How often you use a hair detox shampoo depends on various factors, such as your hair type, styling products used, environmental factors, and personal preference. Here are some general guidelines to consider:
Hair type: Different hair types have different needs. If you have oily hair or use a lot of styling products, you may need to detox more frequently compared to someone with dry or normal hair.
Styling products: If you use heavy styling products regularly, such as hairsprays, gels, or waxes, it's a good idea to detox your hair more often to prevent product buildup.
Environmental factors: If you live in a heavily polluted area or frequently expose your hair to smoke, dust, or other pollutants, you may want to detox more regularly to keep your hair and scalp clean.
Personal preference: Some people prefer to detox their hair regularly, while others find it works best sparingly. Listen to your hair and scalp and adjust your detoxing frequency accordingly.
In general, try detoxing your hair once every 4 weeks if you have oily hair, use many styling products, or live in a polluted environment. If you have dry or normal hair and use minimal products, you may only need to detox once every 6-8 weeks. However, it's essential to monitor the condition of your hair and scalp and adjust your detox frequency as required.
Remember that over-detoxing or using harsh detoxing methods can strip your hair of its natural oils and cause dryness or damage, and can irritate your scalp. Use gentle detoxing methods like the best-clarifying shampoo in Australia and follow up with moisturising and nourishing hair care practices to maintain the health and balance of your hair and scalp.
