Kakadu Plum The Many Benefits

Why is everyone talking about Australia’s superfood, Kakadu Plum?

Australia is home to one of nature’s most powerful healing plants, a miracle superfood, the Kakadu Plum. This small, pale green, oval-shaped fruit holds an abundance of benefits to human health.

Kakadu Plums are an absolute powerhouse of antioxidants, being the richest source of antioxidants on earth, with 4 times the concentration of a blueberry, and the highest recorded levels of Vitamin C, measuring up to 100 times the Vitamin C content found in an orange. No wonder it is called the nutrition powerhouse.

Kakadu Plums are wild harvested by Indigenous communities exclusively in the Kimberleys, Northern Territory and Arnhem Land. Indigenous Australians have harvested this exotic fruit for tens of thousands of years using it extensively for food, healing and traditional medicine.

The natural plant extract has some truly remarkable skin-protecting and beauty-enhancing properties which is driving consumer interest in the beauty world. Kakadu Plum is not only effective in warding off free radical damage, but it is also anti-fungal and antiseptic. These qualities help prevent impurities in the skin, resulting in fewer blemishes. When used in our beauty products, it boosts moisture and shine in the hair and gives your skin a youthful glow.

At V&M Spa we are committed to working with the purest, most natural Australian ingredients, ingredients that provide incredible health benefits to our precious bodies. The Kakadu Plum is one of our favourites.

Uniquely Australian, uniquely potent. A true super-food and a key ingredient in our natural hair and body products.

Where do we source our Kakadu Plum?

Kakadu plum is so special because of its spiritual significance to Indigenous communities, and the love and respect they hold for it.

Our Kakadu Plum comes from the Bardi People, in Lombadina, a community on the Dampier Peninsula in the Kimberley Region of Western Australia. This fruit is part of their culture, identity and economy.

When it’s harvest time on the land, the Lombadina traditional owners handpick and freeze the fruit to make sure they retain its high levels of Vitamin C.

We work closely with this community to help generate income for the local Aboriginal people, assist in the growth of the industry, create employment opportunities and help to provide equipment to make farming more sustainable.

We are so grateful to have the opportunity to learn about the Kakadu Plum from the Bardi people. Not only has this helped us understand its botanical identity, but also its cultural and economic importance.

We are in communication with the elders to ensure we support the community in meaningful ways.
